mIRage spectroscopy options

Counter-propagating mode and other mIRage spectroscopy capabilities to extend research flexibility.

O-PTIR counter propagating technique

Available for mIRage-LS systems only.

An additional major innovation with the mIRage-LS platform is the addition of a new high spatial resolution IR mode, termed “counter-propagating” mode. The key enabler of higher spatial resolution is the ability to utilize regular high power glass objectives as the probe collection optic. Unlike “co-propagating” mode where all-reflective Cassegrain optics are used to focus both the IR pump and visible probe beam, the two beams are decoupled with the IR beam directed via the underside of the sample, allowing for high power glass objectives to be used to delivery and collect the probe beam.

The counter propagating method retains all the benefits of O-PTIR while also providing for increased spatial resolution and greater experimental flexibility, with options now for the use of water-dipping objectives, oil-immersion objectives, etc.

This option also includes transmission detection, with the capability to do measurements in transmission mode (with respect to the probe beam) on transparent samples. Ideal for measurements of cells in water.

O-PTIR Transmission detection mode

Available for both mIRage and mIRage-LS

This transmission detection option provides the mIRage-LS system with the capability to do measurements in transmission mode (with respect to the probe beam) on transparent samples. Ideal for measurements of cells in water.

  • Transmission Mode
    • For visibly transparent samples, with low reflectivity (e.g. small contamination on glass)

Ultra-low power laser detector

Available for both mIRage and mIRage-LS

This option enables the use of the mIRage platform with as much as 100x lower probe power than the standard visible detector whilst maintaining high IR sensitivity. It is especially useful for samples that are delicate, colored, dark and/or strongly absorbing at the probe beam wavelength.

  • Enables visible probe laser to be run at very low power levels with very good SNR detection
  • Multiple examples including failure analysis or contamination samples

Automated IR Polarizer

Available for both mIRage and mIRage-LS

This accessory provides software control of the rotation of the linear polarization of the IR beam from the IR laser. The user can set the polarization to either +45 or -45 degrees and collect O-PTIR spectra or images showing orientation effects in the sample. Operation outside of this +45 to -45 deg range will result in reduced throughput.

  • Provides software control of the rotation of the linear polarization of the IR beam from the IR laser.
  • polarization can be set to either +45 or -45 degrees and collect O-PTIR spectra or images showing orientation effects in the sample

Cross-polarizer option for microplastics and contaminant detection

Available as a standard slide-in filter for the standard mIRage optical camera & as a filter cube for the Fluorescence camera option

The cross-polarizer filter can be utilized to highlight potential microplastics down to ~ 200nm in size and can be used with most substrates, including directly on filter papers. The ability to highlight microplastics in this fashion leads to a dramatic reduction in time to data for characterizing microplastic samples.

Autofluorescence filter cube option for life science, microplastics and contaminant detection.

Available as a filter cube in the Fluorescence camera option. Filter set for Autofluorescence 364. Provides for high quality general purpose autofluorescence imaging by exciting in the UV (355-375nm) and passing all emission >425nm.

Combining filter types for faster, reliable defect detection

The images show contaminants on a silicon filter. Use of the cross-polarizer and or the autofluorescence filters can highlight detection of different contaminant types enabling a more thorough analysis. Images are shown with the Fluorescence camera filter cubes.
